Late August here is still summer: mid-90s, afternoon lightning, and kids who have already been told “we’ll go to the beach” too many times. The move is a morning outdoor loop and a named indoor backup, not a hope that the storm misses you.

If it is sunny before noon

Municipal splash pads and shaded playgrounds. Get there when they open. By 11:30 the concrete is a skillet and the parking is soccer. Start with splash pads or parks in your city — Coral Springs, Davie, Doral, Boca if that is actually close to home.

If the radar is green at 2pm

Do not negotiate with lightning. Flip to indoor play, a children’s museum, or library story time. The empty live calendar on our events page is why this note exists — city feeds miss weeks. A library you can walk into beats a “no events” screen.

If you need it free

Parks, many splash pads, beaches before you pay for a locker, and libraries. See free things to do and kids-eat-free deals. Skip a paid indoor gym if the week already blew the budget.
